Research indicates that If you are thinking about quitting, you may actually overemphasize what you "get" from using tobacco. One effective method for dealing with this is to focus on reasons you want to quit instead.

Take a few minutes and write down 10  reasons why you want to quit.

Keep this list in a place you can get to easily when you feel yourself  craving tobacco.
Ideas of places to put your list include:
• your back pocket
• on the inside of your locker door
• in your bedroom
• in your car
• with your dip tin or cigarette pack

Review your top reasons for quitting every day! The more you emphasize
the reasons you have chosen to quit the more likely you will not slip. In addition,
as you are in the process of quitting you may find new reasons for quitting.
Great! Feel free to add new reasons whenever you want.

Another variation of this idea is to take two 81/2" by 11" pieces of paper
and cut them in half. On each of the four separate new sheets use a
marking pen to list two or three words that describe one of your most
important reasons for quitting.

Post the sheets with the reasons in a conspicuous place eg- your refrigerator,
at the side of your computer, in the t.v. or recreation room, etc. That way you will
be sure to remind yourself of why you want to quit. This technique is especially
helpful when you are craving your tobacco- It will help remind you why you want
to quit.
