Utah's Youth Take on Tobacco
You Can Bring About Change!
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
If you think that quote describes you and you are between the ages of 12-18, then there is a place for you. For decades the tobacco industry has targeted the teen market to replace the smokers who die every day from their product. They do it by creating new flavors, adding color to the box and hiding the truth. But you don’t just have to sit there; you can actually do something about it! Why not take control in your own hands and stop the tobacco industry from playing their tricks on Utah’s youth. All you have to do is show up, speak out and act. Below you will see a list of anti-tobacco youth groups throughout the state. Find one that works best for you and get involved!
Outrage! is a statewide group who fight vigorously against the tobacco industry by creating policy that can stop or derail their manipulative tactics. We find the best way to educate our friends and family is by doing something, that something could be to ban tobacco sponsorships, ban candy flavors or candy like tobacco, restrict nicotine products so they can’t be sold to teens, putting larger graphic warning labels on cigarettes and more.
The best thing about being in Outrage! is the ideas are endless. We will fight against the tobacco industry until they close their doors and stop selling a product that kills 1,200 a day. Each day we fight for our independence, individuality, and control, so why waste that effort on tobacco? Outrage! is a reason to live tobacco free, everyone has a reason, what’s yours?
